Terry Fox Will Be the Next Face on the $5 Bank Note

Terry Fox was born in Winnipeg on July 28, 1958. He was raised in Port Coquitlam, B.C. and became known worldwide for his Marathon of Hope, which began on April 12, 1980. Terry ran 5,373 km, the Marathon of Hope, raising $24 million by February 1981. The Marathon eventually raised $850 million for cancer research.

Terry Fox Runs now take place every year across the world and continue to raise funds for cancer research. To date, over $900 million has been raised for cancer research in Terry’s name.

The BoC has not yet started the design process for the new $5 bank note, which is expected to be issued after the new $20 bank note featuring King Charles III is released in 2027.

Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who is currently the face of the $5 bill, will appear on the next version of the $50 note.
