Last call before the season changes and we get into the wet Fall and freeze of Winter.
SEAL:
- Check for gaps and cracks where wind and water can penetrate.
- Replace weather strip around doors.
- Caulk around windows.
- Seal “windy” electrical outlets.
- Insulate “drafty” ceiling pot lights.
PATCH:
- Plug cracks in concrete walkways, patios, and stairs to keep water from doing more damage as it freezes.
- Have a bay window? Even if it’s covered with shingles, make sure the steel cap & flashing is tarred and caulked.
- Fill driveway potholes & cracks to extend its life past winter.
PROTECT:
- Turn off the outdoor faucet at the inside source & invest in a Styrofoam Faucet Protector (less than $5.00) to lessen the effects of freezing weather.
- Clean out the eavestrough so melt water flows off the roof and doesn’t freeze to cause an ice dam.
- Check the roof for missing or loose shingles.
- Remove lint build-up at outside dryer vent screen and vacuum dryer vent duct.
